줄거리
Directed by Matt Wolf (HBO's The Stroll), this two-part documentary delivers a definitive portrait of Paul Reubens, the man behind the beloved character Pee-wee Herman. Determined to set the record straight on his life, Reubens excavates his kaleidoscopic influences and career choices, while reflecting on the consequences of severing his alter-ego from his authentic self. Delving into his personal and professional challenges, Reubens speaks openly about his 1991 arrest, legal battles, exoneration, resurrection as a public figure, and the apotheosis of Pee-wee as an adored and enduring cultural icon. Featuring over 40 hours of interviews conducted before the star's death in 2023, Pee-wee as Himself serves as a revealing, hilarious, and complex snapshot of Reubens – and a celebration of the legacy he left behind.
